The 2012 Cal Poly Mustang Ball will feature an American Smooth Dance showcase by Professional Competitors David Weise and Borbala Bunnett.
David and Borbala began their partnership in the summer of 2010. Since beginning to compete together, they have placed in the finals of major competitions - in 2010 the Hollywood Dancesport Championships and the Autumn Dance Classic, and in the 2011 the City Lights Ball, California Star Ball, Vegas Showdown, Emerald Ball, San Diego Dancesport, and the Colorado Star Ball.
Borbala, originally from Hungary, began her dance education at age 11 while living in Moscow, Russia. She quickly fell in love with the sparkle and energy of competing, the joy of working in a partnership, and the benefits derived from the rigors of practice. Dancing followed her throughout her global journey as she lived, trained, and competed in Hungary, Russia, Japan, the United Kingdom, and throughout the United States over the past decade.
Prior to her Professional dance career, Borbala was a finalist in the USA Amateur National Smooth and 9-Dance Championships over multiple years, as well as in the USDC Open Standard Pro-Am Championships.
Borbala holds a BA in Economics from Bryn Mawr College and an MBA from the UCLA Anderson School of Management, and works for one of the 'Big Four' professional services firms. Borbala is also a certified Pilates instructor, and incorporates a whole body approach into her teaching..
David, a Bay Area native, leveraged his unique methodology and support of a world champion coaching team to quickly rise through the ranks as a Professional Smooth competitor, placing 2nd in the World Professional Smooth Championships in 2006.
In addition to significant achievements in the ballroom dancing arena, David is also active in film, stage, TV, sports, and entertainment. His dancing film credits include featured dancer roles in Dance With Me and Rent. He has coached dancing and performance for the United States Olympic Rhythmic Gymnastics Team, and Dancing with the Stars competitors. David teaches method acting and performs on stage at Shelton Studios in San Francisco, California, and is also the lead singer and songwriter for the band Slippery People.
David holds a degree in criminal justice from Long Beach State College.
